ARTICLE: Artist & Poet, Liao Yiwu, Detained by Chinese Government
BEIJING — Chinese security agents in Sichuan Province detained Liao Yiwu, a prominent author and critic of the government, as he prepared to fly on Monday to a literary festival in Germany, human rights activists said.
It was the 13th time Mr. Liao had been prevented from leaving the country. The Associated Press reported that he had been placed under house arrest after being questioned by security agents for four hours.
“How can this happen?” the news service quoted him as saying. “It’s a cultural event, nothing political. Such drama!”

The Mathematics of a Hollywood Scene
From the Article:
“Psychologist Professor James Cutting and his team from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, analyzed 150 high-grossing Hollywood films released from 1935 to 2005 and discovered the shot lengths in the more recent movies followed the same mathematical pattern that describes the human attention span. The pattern was derived by scientists at the University of Texas in Austin in the 1990s who studied the attention spans of subjects performing hundreds of trials. The team then converted the measurements of their attention spans into wave forms using a mathematical technique known as the Fourier transform.”

Claims of Chinese Subterfuge in Copenhagen
Journalist and environmental activist, Mark Lynas, recently described the apparent insincerity and general gamesmanship of the Chinese delegation during the 2009 Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen:“How do I know China Wrecked the Copenhagen Deal? I Was in the Room.”
