RYNSA: FOUND MEDIA » TED http://www.rynshanearmstrong.com/media RYNSA's Found Media from Around the Internet Sat, 07 Aug 2010 17:32:26 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.9 en hourly 1 Devdutt Pattanaik @ TED: East vs. West http://www.rynshanearmstrong.com/media/2010/01/23/devdutt-pattanaik-east-vs-west-ted/ http://www.rynshanearmstrong.com/media/2010/01/23/devdutt-pattanaik-east-vs-west-ted/#comments Sat, 23 Jan 2010 16:54:53 +0000 rynsa http://www.rynshanearmstrong.com/media/?p=416 Some of this could be extended to include the Confucian-heritage cultures in the far East, I would think, including China. However, I would argue that there’s much more emphasis in those cultures on the collective understanding of Mr. Pattanaik’s “mythology of the infinite.” It’s not so much “the world” and/or “my world” (object meets subjective, the West meets India), but “the wolrd” and/or “OUR world.”

In any case, a thought-provoking TED video:

The ‘Energy’ of Interviews: Marc Pachter http://www.rynshanearmstrong.com/media/2009/12/23/the-energy-of-interviews-marc-pachter/ http://www.rynshanearmstrong.com/media/2009/12/23/the-energy-of-interviews-marc-pachter/#comments Wed, 23 Dec 2009 20:59:21 +0000 rynsa http://www.rynshanearmstrong.com/media/?p=19 I really enjoyed this lecture from Marc Pachter, former director of the National Museum of American History and the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. His “Living Self-Portraits” project is especially inspiring. Key quote from the presentation:

“It’s energy that creates extraordinary interviews and extraordinary lives — I’m convinced of it. And it has nothing to do with the energy of being young.”

For another take on Pachter’s work, check out this tongue-n-cheek phone call on the Colbert Report (scroll through to about 2:30 for the Pachter scene):
